FACULTY LEADERSHIP SERIES | Virtual Event.
The Faculty Leadership Series at TPI is designed to support faculty and instructors who prepare future school and district leaders through evidence-based, inclusive administrator preparation. This virtual session, Laying the Foundation for Inclusive Schooling: Principal Practices to Support the Presence, Participation, and Achievement of Students with Disabilities, focuses on the foundational leadership practices principals use to build inclusive school environments and strengthen systems of support for students with disabilities.
Presented by Dr. David DeMatthews of the University of Texas at Austin, this ninety-minute session explores how principals can lead inclusive change by understanding legal requirements, recognizing diverse perspectives within school communities, and assessing readiness for change. Participants will examine how effective leadership practices support inclusive schooling, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for student outcomes, particularly in schools that have historically relied on less inclusive models.
Through this Faculty Leadership Series session, participants will engage with strategies that support the presence, active participation, and achievement of students with disabilities in general education settings. The discussion highlights leadership approaches that build educator capacity, strengthen inclusive systems, and support instructional improvement across schools and districts.
This event is designed for faculty and instructors seeking to strengthen administrator preparation and increase the overall impact of leadership programs. By participating in the Faculty Leadership Series, attendees will gain research-informed insights and practical guidance that support the preparation of future principals committed to inclusive and equitable schooling.
The event takes place on February 18 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm PST and 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm EST and will be held virtually.
